  • Ladakh is a geographical region in the state of Jammu and kashmir, India.

  • 84% of ladakh's population lives in villages and rural areas which are not easy to reach due to the Himalaya Range.

  • Resources are scarce, no hospitals or close by healthcare services nearby, making everyday life difficult in this harsh environment.

  • Infant mortality rate is among the highest in the world, and during delivery many women die, from preventable causes.

  • For centuries, the only medical system, which was accessible to Ladakhis, has been the am chi.

  • Amchis are traditional doctors following Tibetan medicine , which is an important component of public health especially in remote areas.
